Total area of the garden - 5 acres, greenhouses - 500 square meters. The botanical collections contain about 1500 species. The garden has a collection of flowers as well as a large number of trees and shrubs. The University Botanical Garden was established in 1892 on the initiative of the first Bulgarian Professor of Botany, Stefan Georgiev. He was a member of the World Council of botanical gardens. At the opening was planted an oak, in whose roots Ferdinand buried a gold coin, the oak still exists today.
